Hi all,

It's been a while between posts, and rides..

I sat the bike up for a few weeks and life got in the way.. similar to bondage007, fast forward a year and I'm desperate for a few moments alone with the bird.

I've had a read through the recent threads regarding fuel pump, filter etc. and I'm hoping if I empty the tank without any attempts at turning the engine over, I'll negate a few of the bigger issues.

I plan on siphoning the fuel out, however would I be stupid to just throw some fresh fuel in and giving it a crack?

Am I pretty much set to follow suit and strip the pump/filter/tubes etc. and replace them?

Would these be the safe bet, prices about right for Aus? Anything missing?

Your bike, your decision.

If it was mine I would remove the tank and drain properly, rinse out with fresh fuel, drain the fuel hose as much as is possible. I would remove the injectors and inspect, reassemble if all looks ok then proceed with fresh fuel. When the bike fires up don't touch the throttle until it's warmed up.

If however E10 was the last fill up then it's a different story.

I can't say I've ever touched E10, generally 91 or 95 if I'm feeling generous, so hopefully safe there..

I'll have to dig around for how the injectors should look so I know what I'm looking at.

I still need to get the mount seam on the tank sorted (weeping fuel) however that's the first thing I'll have done once it's off the bike.

Do I need to worry about the seal/gasket for the fuel pump, or are they generally reusable?

You should have a copy of the Service Manual by now, readily available on line if not. Probably here too if it can be found.

In my case , yes , both fuel pump and sender gaskets were reusable.

Pulled the tank off Saturday before guests popped around and swallowed the rest of the day.
I pulled the pump assembly from the tank last night to drain the rest of the fuel, gaskets looked new enough, plenty of life left in that...

I've grabbed a replacement pump kit (filter, pump, hoses, clamps etc) and a new Mahl fuel filter.
It's coming up on the 12k service, pretty sure I read the inline filter needs replacing by then, $170 sounds better than finding out the hard way I should have.

Worst case, I have a spare pump..

I'll probably just throw it at a dealer to do the service as I've got a pretty solid couple of months and what little time I have I'd rather be riding than wrenching.

Old fuel is a concern of mine. The TBird has been in storage for two years but I added fuel stabilizer and siphoned gas from the tank. ...hopefully install a battery and fire her up this year!

I parked up one of my other bikes about 3 years ago, I was certain I left it with an almost empty tank, but I had to move it the other day and the sloshing sound, followed by the sudden realization that I'd left the petcock open makes for a horrible feeling, I'm assuming the carbs are jelly molds now...
That said, the dog's also attacked a couple of cables so I think that bike's going to be a bobber project.

I have a feeling the TBird will fire up without issues...at least that's what she tells me.
And I have a TBird 900. The tank is off but there's fuel in the carb. ...it'll probably require teardown and cleaning.

The teardown and cleaning is what's putting me off doing anything with that bike... and the fact that the rear brake doesn't push back when you let the foot off...
something tells me there's a bit of work involved in that one... I would rather that time go to the bird.

...hope my TBird fires right up! Anyway the 900 always seemed sluggish, maybe the carb. Now that the tank is off, I might as well have a look. Judging by this carb kit, it appears straight forward.
